Terry and Delores Owens are a local success story for Roane State Community College and the Cumberland Business Incubator. In 1993 Delores rented a space on Peavine road and began Nature’s Way Herb Shop providing herbs and iridology, the study of the iris to improve systemic health. In 1996 the business grew with the addition of massages provided by a nurse. In 1997 Delores graduated from the Roane State Community College Somatic Therapy Program and became a Licensed Massage Therapist. The business name was changed to Nature’s Way Center for Alternative Health and the resulting growth has been phenomenal. (www.natureswaymassage.com)
In 2000 both Terry and Delores became Registered Certified Reflexologists. In 2004 Terry completed the Roane State Community College program and became a Licensed Massage Therapist. In 2005 both Terry and Delores were trained in Healing Arts which is a medical multi-modal approach to therapeutic massage. In 2013 Terry became a MPS practitioner providing a non-invasive alternative to acupuncture without the use of needles. More recently Terry was trained in traditional Chinese acupressure and Taoist medicine.
The practice expanded in 2012 to include offering massages in the Fairfield Glade Community and Conference Center and in 2015 expanded to providing services inside Uplands Village in Pleasant Hill.
Terry has been working closely with other health practitioners in the area and in 2014 helped to form a cooperative of holistic healthcare professionals called Well by Nature (www.wellbynature.com). This group was formed for referrals among like-minded practitioners as well as public education and to raise awareness of complementary and alternative medicine options in the area through expos and a speaker bureau.
In April of 2016 Nature’s Way moved to a 2,000 square foot holistic wellness center on Peavine Road providing room for fitness and yoga classes and Well by Nature. Classes on healthy cooking, juicing, Qigong Tai Chi, meditation and energy healing are in plans for the future.
Terry is frequently at the Cumberland Business Incubator attending workshops and classes, updating his website, working on his blog in Blogging Club, brainstorming ideas and planning for even more growth for the business. Congratulations Terry and Delores!
