It should be possible to define your business and the benefits you provide to your customers in the same time it takes for a short elevator ride.  Everyone needs to speak about the unique benefits of their business at some point.  They key is to keep the pitch fresh, your language, your approach, and what you choose to highlight needs to change over time or people stop listening.  You also need to be able to adjust the pitch to the person you are speaking with.  Continually perfecting your elevator pitch ensures you are always able to put your best foot forward.
