The driver behind the EMV migration is card-related financial fraud. The shift of liability

is a major change. “The party, either the issuer or merchant, who does not support EMV, assumes liability for counterfeit card transactions.” Per MasterCard Issuers are the banks, credit unions, and any other financial institution issuing the credit or debit cards. Retailers are the merchants. Businesses must be compliant in accepting EMV cards by the (real) deadline or THEY will be the ones financially liable for fraudulent use of credit/debit cards.   Don’t let this be you.
