Friday the 13th was a very lucky day for the Cumberland Business Incubator (CBI). Pauline Sherrer, Crossville Chronicle and CBI Steering Committee member, recognized earlier this year that the CBI, as well as the businesses located within the CBI, needed to be easier to find and took the leadership role in the CBI sign project. Pauline felt the sign should represent a local business so she and CBI Director Holly Hanson met with Cyndy and Bruce Gardner of Homestead Timber Frames and their team who designed, built and led the raising of the timber frame.
It took many more people to create and install the sign that you’ll see along Cook Road. Don Sadler, Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Director and CBI Steering Committee member, saw the sign as a great project for his students including the CAD/Drafting Technology students who detailed the design of the metal portion, the Welding Technology students who welded the metal grid and top sign frame, the Automotive Technology students who painted the metalwork, the Building Construction Technology students and their instructor Ricky Smith who installed the metalwork into the timber frame, dug the holes for the posts, mixed the cement and helped with the raising of the sign.
The Roane State Community College team on-site included David Webb and Andy Davis who worked with the utility companies, pulled out the shrubs to be sure the sign will be seen, prepared the holes and created the support frame to keep the sign straight until the cement dried as well as making sure all the materials were where they needed to be on time throughout the project.
Supporters for the CBI sign project include Homestead Timber Frames, Tennessee College of Applied Technology, Roane State Community College, Highland Federal Savings & Loan, Cumberland County Bank, Lansford and Stephens CPA, Roy Stone, Scott Shanks, Volunteer Electric Company, and Sherrer Properties.
Bonnie Moedano and Holly Hanson of the CBI and their tenants, Coolants and Cleaners, The Biz Foundry and Sylvan Learning Center want to thank everyone that helped make the Cook Road sign a reality……It Takes A Village!
